DevelopersNetwork: Why was Remarkable Hosting started?

Matthew Feinberg: After years of helping and growing web hosts and my tenure at Ensim I became energized by the growth potential of the hosting business. I saw an opportunity in a declining economy to start building a new kind of hosting company that worked as well off line as on line. I believe that the hosting business will be run by the 50,000 or more small home time consultants or web developers. This is how the vast majority of the 8 million plus small businesses will be serviced."

DevelopersNetwork: Prior to starting Remarkable Hosting what experience did management have in the hosting industry?

Matthew Feinberg: "Personally, I have been involved in the web hosting industry since 1995 and have worked for various small and large ISP/Hosts. Before founding Remarkable Hosting I worked at Ensim Corp where I held several positions including Manager of Customer Support and Chief Web Hosting Architect and worked with the engineering, sales, and marketing teams that developed Private Server technology and the WEBppliance. Before Ensim I was the Director of Web Hosting at 9 Net Avenue in Secaucus New Jersey. 9 Net was purchased by Concentric (now XO in October 1999)."

DevelopersNetwork: Who do you consider to be your primary competition?

Matthew Feinberg: "Remarkable Hosting is really in a class by itself. We are the first host to specialize in Private Server reselling. We do however keep an eye on the industry as a whole to keep abreast of trends. Since we mostly host small web developers and hometown developers competition is not a factor between our resellers."

DevelopersNetwork: We all know that there are lots of hosting companies for consumers to choose from, why would a consumer choose your service instead of the alternatives available?

Matthew Feinberg: "Remarkable Hosting is powered by the Ensim ServerXchange Management platform. This allows us to easily manage a large number of servers and private servers while giving some control to our customers. What we do best is provide a platform for our resellers to manage their own servers, accounts, and customers with minimal interference or interaction from us. Our happiest customers are the ones we never need to talk to because of the reliability and self service capability of our platform."

DevelopersNetwork: What tools do you have available for someone who wants to start offering web hosting services?

Matthew Feinberg: "Our specialty is the Ensim WEBppliance on Private Servers. What this provides is a scalable and affordable hosting appliance to our customers. Along with our DNSPro DNS Manager our customers can easily manage their customer sites, DNS and more. Our Reseller Control Panel for virtual private server resellers will allow our larger resellers to manage groups of private and dedicated servers from one location."

DevelopersNetwork: Explain briefly how private servers work and why someone would want a private server.

Matthew Feinberg: "A Private Server is a virtual server or a slice of a physical server. It contains its own copy of the Red Hat Linux operating system and provides full root access and the QOS/SLA of a dedicated server. We deploy a PS through the Ensim ServerXchange system which provides us a way to manage the servers, deploy applications and updates from a central control server. The users of a private server do not need to worry about operating system updates or appliance patches."

DevelopersNetwork: Please describe your data center for your servers, and does Remarkable Hosting own the data center or do you rent space from another provider?

Matthew Feinberg: "We are able to keep costs down by utilizing existing data center space. With the abundance of existing data center space there is no need to spend capital on building more space. Our data center in downtown Las Vegas is managed by Collocation Solutions. CS has data centers in Dallas, Austin and Las Vegas."

DevelopersNetwork: Explain why Remarkable Hosting is stable during the current economic conditions.

Matthew Feinberg: "We took advantage of the current conditions by offering what is lacking in the industry today. High quality service at a reasonable price. Customers are loyal for the most part regardless of price if they are getting great service."

DevelopersNetwork: What service improvements do you plan to make in the immediate future?

Matthew Feinberg: "We will be adding more redundant internet connectivity, adding data center space in different cities and expanding our service offerings. Our primary concentration will be adding features and services for the small hometown web developers."

DevelopersNetwork: How do you envision the hosting industry changing in the next 6-12 months?

Matthew Feinberg: "There will be little change in the next 12 months due to the depressed economy. Once things start picking up again and investors open their wallets I see a larger surge in consolidations and acquisitions."

DevelopersNetwork: What enhancements are being made for your customers in the next three to twelve months?

Matthew Feinberg: "We are releasing our Reseller Control panel that will enable our resellers to deploy their own private servers, manage their domain registration and ecommerce offerings."

DevelopersNetwork: What is the vision for the future of Remarkable Hosting?

Matthew Feinberg: "Remarkable Hosting will eventually become known as THE source for hosting resellers. Our broad base of small resellers and our partnerships will enable controlled growth and higher quality of service to our end customers."
