Most of us have a basic understanding for what a web site is. It simply is known as a collection of pages we visit on the internet for information, knowledge, games, entertainment, and to achieve tasks. Any page you read or access on the web is part of a web site including this very page.

How Web Sites Basically Work:
Web sites work because of servers. A server is a computer used to store web sites, and other related files. When we are online we access these servers through the internet, and view the stored files. Each collection of files is called a web site. You can either own your own server or rent server space from web hosting providers. It is practical to use web hosting services from a service provider, since buying and maintaining a server is very difficult, and expensive unless you have the proper tools.

All online servers have server addresses, a collection of numbers such as http://209.35.233.63/. When you get a domain name your web server will be pointed to and domain name (www.yourname.com) of your choice.

In order to get a domain name you'll need to reserve one through a domain registrar. These domain registrars will reserve your web address. There is a number of companies that have been given the authority to register domain names by the official organization known as ICANN, www.icann.com. Then you provide your domain registrar with the server address such as http:// 209.35.233.63/ and they will make it so it works with the domain name (www.yourname.com).

Get a Web Publishing Tool:
Well, before even beginning to concentrate on finding a web host you will need the necessary tools to design a web site. Web sites are actually physically designed using web publishing tools. These types of tools will allow you to access your server space, create files, edit files, etc. Luckily you don't need to know any technical code for most web publishing tools. They work similar to as you would in Microsoft Word. Just about all paid web hosting providers require you have a web publishing tool. You'll also want graphics design tools for making catchy images on your web site.
